2021 In-Person Meeting Canceled, Virtual Option Available, Call for Abstracts Re-Opened

On Monday, July 27, 2020 the Western Trauma Association Board of Directors voted unanimously to cancel the in person 51st Annual Meeting of WTA that was to be held February 28 – March 5, 2021 in Big Sky Montana.

This was not an easy decision and it was based on the safety of the WTA Members, Friends and Family, and Guests. The other significant factors influencing this decision were potential mandates from the State of Montana and Gallatin and Madison counties that could potentially require social distancing of 6-feet in the meeting rooms, thereby limiting the potential attendance, and the unpredictability of a resurgence of COVID 19 in the Fall and Winter.

Furthermore, the BOD decided that we will not move the entire meeting agenda to an online, virtual one. However, we are planning a single live virtual session during the week of February 28th to present and discuss the algorithms being developed by Dr. Matt Martin and the Algorithms Committee, as well as an update on the multicenter trials from Dr. Carlos Brown and the MCT Committee. As plans are developed, we will communicate those with you so that everyone can participate.

On Demand Abstracts & Manuscript Publication

In order to continue the WTA commitment to the improvement of trauma care through research, education, and sharing of clinical experiences, the Program Committee is planning something new.  Members and guests of the WTA can present their research through recorded abstract presentations to be posted and available on-demand on the WTA website beginning the first week of March.  We have re-opened the Call for Abstracts website.  Abstract submission will be open through 11:59pm Pacific Time on October, 15, 2020 to be considered by Dr. Nick Namias and the Program Committee. Manuscripts for the accepted abstracts will be submitted for review by Dr. Marc de Moya and the Publication Committee. Unfortunately at this time we cannot offer CME for this activity.  This is for scientific abstract submission only, no case reports or family abstracts.

Abstracts can be submitted HERE.

The Board is very disappointed to miss the 2021 meeting and our “Fellowship of the Snow”.  We anticipate that we will resume in 2022 in Big Sky from February 20-25, 2022.
